The intent of Megan Champ Morgan Scholarship is to provide funding for WakeMed employee’s dependents seeking to complete a higher education degree or certification. Awards are to be used for post-secondary education or training at an accredited not-for-profit institution of higher learning who intend on enrolling in one of the following areas: Health Sciences, Elementary or Secondary Education, Computer Sciences or Information Technology. Preference is given to candidates who demonstrate and can define a clear financial need for support.
Scholarship Amount: Max $10,000 per individual. One-time scholarship.
Deadline: May 2, 2025 by 5pm

Parent/Guardian (WakeMed Employee) Eligibility:
- Applicant’s parent/guardian must be able to demonstrate and define a financial need for support.
- Applicants’ parent/guardian must be able to provide proof of dependent or applicant seeking funding support.
- Applicant’s parent/guardian must have been an employee of WakeMed for at least three years.
- Applicant’s parent/guardian must remain employed at WakeMed at least two years post award.
- Applicant’s parent/guardian has received a score of 3 or higher on their most recent annual evaluation.
- Applicant’s parent/guardian must be a benefits eligible FT/PT employee at WakeMed.
- Applicant’s parent/guardian must not have any active disciplinary actions.
Student/Applicant Eligibility:
- Applicant must be an eligible dependent of a WakeMed employee.
- Applicant must be an incoming first year or second year at a post-secondary education or training at an accredited not-for-profit institute.
- Applicant can only receive Foundation education funding/support one-time.
- Applicants can apply up to the age of 26 years old.
Other Requirements:
- Availability and number of awards is dependent on availability of funds and number of applicants at time of application.
- Award amount is based on financial need and expense projections.
- Post award, applicant must be able to demonstrate enrollment or acceptance into an academic program for fund disbursement.
- Funds are not intended to be deferred. (Case-by-case basis with committee evaluation as needed.)
- Funding provided for first or second year of degree or technical program.
- Funds are distributed directly to the school prior to the Fall Semester of the calendar year applied for.
- Funds can be used for tuition, books, room, and board.
- Funds are provided for two-year or four-year programs. This includes technical schools, colleges, and universities.
- Applicant must participate in an in-person interview if selected during the first round.
- Applicant must submit grades within 90 days from end of semesters supported.
- Provide the WakeMed Foundation with a picture of your high school graduation and/or picture of you with your diploma.
- If awarded, applicant must sign a promissory default agreement with the WakeMed Foundation and repay any scholarship funds within 90 days of a default.
- If applicant drops out of school funds must be returned to the WakeMed Foundation Megan Champ Morgan Scholarship Fund.
- Return all unspent funds to the WakeMed Foundation Megan Champ Morgan Scholarship Fund.
- Recipients may also be asked to meet with supporters and/or participate in promotion and recognition of the program.
